Job Purpose: A test technician will be responsible for all procedures and documents for executing engine and alternator test, to ensure the assemblies are meeting all specifications before shipping to customer.

• 3 Years of Technical Assembly experience or Technical Degree.

Key Job Elements:

Minimum duties and responsibilities:

• Support engine and alternator test cells;

• Troubleshoot problems/failures in the process and procedures issues;

• Document standard work that’s accurately and safe for the test cells and perform the task needed and monitor work to ensure compliance. This is to include defining and piloting technical test creating working instructions and identifying programming and tooling needs;

• Train others on the process and procedures;

• Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specification and tooling instructions;

• Follow reporting and recordkeeping procedures, and report problems to supervisor Works with Quality and Operations for problem solving initiatives;

• Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management;

• Use precision gauges and instruments to determine and follow customers specifications;

• Calculate and record data;

• Diagnose, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair all defects found during testing;

• Responsible for test set-ups and special instrumentations required to determine parts performance and systems characteristics.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Ability to learn how to test;

• Ability to read and understand mechanical / electrical / pneumatic / hydraulic schematics flowcharts;

• Functional understanding of (locomotive engine) electrical and mechanical systems;

• Technical knowledge to detect a deficiency with written skills to record deficiencies in an easily understandable manner and the expertise to repair the deficiency (if required);

• Basic understanding of BOM and routing structure;

• Ability to comfortably present to team members and other area leaders;

• Intermediate level skills of Microsoft Office (Excel / Word / PowerPoint);

• Experience in test specification reading and interpretation.

Preferred Skills:

• Proficient in troubleshooting machinery startup, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems;

• Proficient in reading and interpreting schematic drawings for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions:

• Strength – Position requires lifting of 35lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while installing or repair machinery and components;

• Motion – Position requires standing majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling and climbing of steps and stairs;

• Emotional Demands – Employee is expected to work and cooperate as part of team in order to meet production requirements;

• Safety – Position is safety sensitive as it requires working in and around live operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies and use of all PPE.
