Shenandoah University Brandt Student Center Manager in Winchester, Virginia

Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Affairs is accepting applications for a Brandt Student Center Manager. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

The Office of Student Leadership & Engagement furthers the educational and inspirational mission of Shenandoah University by providing learning opportunities through student involvement and promoting purposeful and inclusive co-curricular environments with shared expectations. The Brandt Student Center Manager serves an integral role in Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Leadership & Engagement. The manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Brandt Student Center which includes facility supervision, reservations set-up and support, quality customer service, student employee training and development, and on-call response for emergencies. This position will also support signature events on campus and serve on planning committees as needed.

The Brandt Student Center Manager is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Brandt Student Center - Administrative oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Brandt Student Center. This includes tracking building use and trends, working with physical plant on building repair and maintenance, building hours, security and design and implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Event Management - Coordinate space reservation and set-up within the Brandt Student Center using CourseDog scheduling software. This includes reviewing contracts and providing on-site event support and guidance as needed.

  • Student Employment - Supervise, train and evaluate up to 50 student center employees

  • Leadership Development - Facilitate opportunities for student employees to learn and be inspired to grow in leadership development.

  • Student Activities - Support collaborative efforts that provide student-centered, signature programming, including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Fall Fest, Apple Blossom, Spring Formal, Orientation, and events within the Brandt Student Center.

  • Collaboration - Be a campus leader in establishing relationships with key campus partners, including Aramark, Physical Plant, Information Technology, Campus Events, Auxiliary Services, and the offices of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Office of the President.

Basic Functions for the Brandt Student Center Manager include:

  • Provide administrative support for the Office of Student Leadership & Engagement, including but not limited to technical and event equipment upkeep and office supplies inventory for OSLE staff.

  • Fulfill the role of building coordinator as described in the University Emergency Operations Plan, involving assessment of and responding to crisis situations within the Brandt Student Center.

  • Provide on-site quality customer service to faculty, staff, students, and patrons of the student center.

  • Complete regular reports and additional projects as assigned by the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement.

  • Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours as required, including but not limited to weekends and weekdays before 9am and after 5pm.

  • Maintain records of contracts and payments for reservations outside of the Shenandoah University community.

  • Assist in a variety of departmental efforts and initiatives, campus outreach efforts, committee work, university-wide and divisional programs.

  • Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver equipment as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement

Required Skills

Education:

  • Bachelors required.

Required Experience

Experience:

  • Two or more years experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired.

  • Prior experience working in Student Center/Unions, Summer Conferences

and Programs, Student Activities, Student Leadership Development, or a similar department within Student Life is highly desirable.

  • Must be capable of developing working relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis.

  • Decision-making, the capacity to troubleshoot, and ability to implement creative solutions are essential.
