About you and this role

As theInstrumentation & Automation Technologist,you will actively participate as a member of our plant support team where you will be responsible for the instrumentation and the electrical systems, and the highly integrated distributed control system for the facility. You will work closely with the Operations Team and maintenance personnel to ensure ongoing safe and proficient pilot plant operations.

In this role, you will be using your prior related experience, job-related training, or vocational training to complete routine activities. You will need to have basic technical or administrative skills to follow the established and approved work processes. You will need to understand how these assigned duties relate to other jobs within your workgroup and be able to exchange basic technical information with other team members.

It is your responsibility to use standard operating procedures and/or analytical/scientific methods to address both defined and straightforward problems as well as troubleshoot dysfunctional systems, related to instrumentation, electrical, and process control. You must have the ability to select solutions from established options to resolve typical administrative, data organization, and data coordination problems. You will be accountable for managing your own assigned workload with no additional supervisory responsibilities. Your performance impacts the quality of your own work as well as your team’s work. You will receive close to moderate level of supervision and guidance in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Applies previous related experience, job-related training, or formal vocational training to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas

  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment for small projects.

  • Scopes out electrical, instrumentation, and DCS requirements to the extent that cost and workload can be estimated for capital projects

  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures and repairs all types of controls and instruments with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic variables.

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List (e.g. Field checks, instrument calibrations, etc.)

  • Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems, and understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with other related teams

  • Performs instrumentation troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance

  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures related to instrumentation and electrical.

  • Participates in Root Cause Investigations

  • Performs process upset/crisis response activities assigned by Pilot Plant Technologist

  • Demonstrates proficient application of Life Critical Standards and sets role model in safety culture

  • Completes all assigned training per facility training plan

Qualifications

One of the following is required:

  • A minimum of an Associates Degree with emphasis in Chemistry, Biology, or similar technology related area

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with HART instrumentation technology is preferred

  • Experience with Electrical drawings, P&ID, and SAP is preferred

  • Excellent communication and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Must be a team player and be able to work safely in a self-directed team environment.

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.

  • Previous experience with Rockwell Automation preferred

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
