Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced School Food Service Cook to join our team in a busy school cafeteria environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking food for students, faculty, and staff, and ensuring that all meals are of high quality and meet nutritional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook a variety of food items, including entrees, side dishes, and desserts, using standardized recipes and procedures.
Ensure that all meals meet nutritional standards and portion control guidelines.
Assist with menu planning and development as needed.
Follow all safety and sanitation procedures, including wearing protective equipment as required.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and surrounding areas.
Assist with inventory management, including ordering supplies and ingredients.
Supervise and train kitchen staff as needed.
Communicate with serving staff to ensure timely and efficient service.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree or certificate preferred.
Previous experience in a food service or hospitality setting required; school food service experience preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
The School Food Service Cook will work in a school cafeteria environment and must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings and occasional evenings. The position requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment. The worker may be exposed to hot temperatures, steam, and cleaning chemicals, and must adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
