Hours: Monday-Friday, additional hours as required. (hybrid)

Travel: Approximately 5-7 days annually

Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Manager for Federal Policy would oversee the Government Relations policy segment and coordinate all policy activities in conjunction with the AAFP’s advocacy priorities. This position would work with the VP of Government Relations and Legislative team in aligning and prioritizing the policy activities of the Academy with the activities of the executive and legislative branch. The Senior Manager would develop and oversee the execution of a holistic proactive strategy for engaging with Federal Agencies to advance the AAFP’s priorities, including overseeing the development of organizational responses to regulations, requests for information, and guidance documents in collaboration with other divisions. The Senior Manager would arrange and facilitate timely meetings between AAFP principals and agency personnel on regulatory priorities. The position would also represent the AAFP in multistakeholder coalitions. It would oversee a staff that triage policy priorities and inquiries on issues close to family medicine. This position would report to the Vice President of Government Relations.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in an academic field directly related and essential to the job or through equivalent work experience plus a minimum of six years related work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of federal health care regulatory processes (especially in HHS agencies) needed. Must excel in public speaking and have the ability to speak to members as well as external stakeholders. In addition, the ability to accomplish multiple priorities, and excellent analytic and writing skills are necessary.
