The O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law (https://oneill.law.georgetown.edu/about-us/) was established in 2007 through the generous philanthropy of Linda and Timothy O’Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing global health concerns. In bringing together experts from both the public health and legal fields, the O’Neill Institute reflects the importance of public and private law in health policy analysis.

The intent of the Law Center’s Research Intern Program is to develop participants’ skills in the analytical research and legal writing necessary for a career in global health law.

Research Interns are early career global health attorneys who manage day-to-day activities and schedules for projects and scholarship development, share their experiences entering the field, and provide guidance on the skills necessary for a career in the field.

Job Overview

The J-1 Research Intern will work with O'Neill Institute faculty, project directors, law fellows, and peer student research assistants on academic legal research related to global health law projects.

Interns will research new case law, statutes, and regulations throughout the world and analyze for relevance to global health law topics. These skills will be taught by way of:

  • Global health law library research and training

  • Research tasks for global health and human rights case law research

  • Research tasks for non-communicable diseases policies and regulations

  • Analysis of research

  • If desired, additional tasks to draft and prepare academic scholarship with associates, fellows, and project directors

Work Interactions

Research Interns will receive daily supervision from assigned supervisor/Associate, and will have weekly meetings and check-ins with Core Supervisor and the O'Neill Institute Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Current JD student or current JD-equivalent student

  • Academic and working knowledge of research topics related to health law
