Job Title: Lamination Process Engineer

Department: Advanced Materials & Manufacturing

Reports To: Director, Advanced Materials & Manufacturing


Demonstrate leadership ability to provide technical oversight, direction, and training for the lamination process. Must be knowledgeable in the various fiberglass molding processes (open molding, LRTM, etc.) and familiar with a variety of composite materials and chemicals. Able to assist in and lead the integration of projects of a complex nature for the fiberglass laminating environment, and work well with diverse work groups across multiple divisions and departments. The position requires strong project management skills, and the ability to work with raw material suppliers and product engineering and manufacturing teams. Must have aptitude for quick learning in the application of new materials and processes for optimizing the fiberglass lamination process, and be able to perform a variety of different tasks with a wide degree of creativity and flexibility.


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Help develop and standardize robust manufacturing process controls to create repeatable processing for fiberglass lamination and other composite processes.

  • Work with manufacturing management teams to provide training and technical assistance where needed to meet and sustain production schedules and plant quality objectives.

  • Develop plans, lead, and participate in assignments related to improving manufacturing efficiencies, reducing variation in materials and labor, and improving product quality.

  • Evaluate new materials as required for the lamination process to improve process capability, efficiency, and quality.

  • Utilize project management skills for maintaining project schedules and timelines for meeting divisional goals, tasks, and objectives.

  • Assist in developing specifications and requirements for materials and processes that meet long-term production requirements with the lowest possible cost.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • Unigraphics or similar CAD software experience is preferred

  • Experience in Marine industry or boating is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of fiberglass composite materials and processes is required

  • Knowledge of standards applied by the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and the USCG are preferred.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data sheets and test reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries regarding materials and processes. Ability to effectively present information to management teams.


Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to real world applications. Ability to apply statistical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in numerical or graphical form.
