We are excited to announce a pilot program taking place at Thornton Elementary and Thornton Middle Schools for the 2024-25 school year. The pilot program will be effective August 1, 2024 pending ratification and Board of Education approval. Job descriptions, contract length, and educator expectations are specific to the pilot program design. SUMMARY: To develop, implement, and assess intervention instruction for students through the use of best practices in literacy and math instruction, including conducting weekly progress monitoring and data analysis of students' progress. Ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers and all support staff is inherent to this position in an effort to build instructional capacity in the area of literacy and math among staff. Tha Academic Interventionist will work with the district literacy and math team, the Literacy director and the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and school stakeholders to increase student achievement.

Demonstrate and maintain a learner mindset and disposition for working with students needing additional academic support in order to be successful in the classroom.

Design and implement intervention instruction for individual students or small groups of students aligned to district intervention model. Use data to inform instruction and engage in collaborative decision-making.

Collaborate with team members and district leadership to enhance intervention instruction, build capacity among colleagues, and achieve the district goals. This includes regularly receiving feedback and participating in video lesson study.

Apply knowledge of current standards and research and topics in the areas of reading and math instruction.

Demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills.

Meet the needs of diverse learners.

Use a variety of formal and informal assessment tools, including application and analysis of reading assessments such as PALS, KPALS, MAP, Running Records, Math Recovery Assessments, Advantage Assessments, and daily formative and summative EM4 assessments.

Together, with school stakeholders, develop, implement and review READ plans and district literacy plans for students as needed.

Create a safe, supportive and effective learning environment for students.

Attend all interventionist team trainings and collaboration sessions

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required: math and/or reading focus preferred. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.

  • Reading Specialist, Reading Recovery, Interactive Strategies Approach, Orton Gillingham, Wilson, Fundations and/or Math Recovery/Advantage Math cerification /training/experience preferred.

  • Successful experience working with adult learner preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate Colorado Educator License.

  • Willingness to pursue a Reading Specialist Endorsement and Math Recovery Certification.

  • Ability to travel among school locations.

    SALARY INFORMATION (FOR EXTERNAL CANDIDATES):

  • All salary placement onPilot Salary Schedule (https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1713217288/adams12org/q9iikrnsjcego4b9lnc6/FinalPilotSchedule.pdf) is dependent on the employees’ education and/or work experience.

  • Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for each full year of contractual and/or work experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years, which includes in-district and out-of-district contractual teaching and/or work experience. Responsibility for verification of outside experience shall rest with the individual employee.

Internal Candidates Only:

13.2.5 Voluntary transfers that occur fifteen working days before the start of the school year and until the end of the school year shall happen once the position being vacated has been filled, for a duration of no more than four weeks. This four week time period could be adjusted in consultation with the educator, current and receiving supervisor and with approval from the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Association President.
