FEV North America, Inc is seeking a Technical Specialist for its Engine and Hybrid Powertrain Systems team. This Technical Specialist Gasoline Combustion Engines position is an opportunity for the right candidate to experience state-of-the-art powertrain technology and get involved in a wide range of development tasks that move application solutions from concept to production. The Technical Specialist supports gasoline powertrain development programs and p rovides technical guidance to Project and Senior Engineers conducting vehicle and engine testing. This individual needs a deep understanding of thermodynamics, combustion fundamentals as well as test methodologies, engine hardware, calibration, and control features . This Technical Specialist position requires a highly motivated individual with the eagerness to learn and make a positive contribution.

Job Responsibilities:

• Define project scopes, project schedules and test plans

• Plan and oversee tests on engine/chassis dynamometer or in application to assess the performance, fuel economy, and emissions of new engine and engine system technologies

• Support execution of projects in a team environment and provide technical guidance to project team members

• Specify test instrumentation and methodologies to meet measurement requirements for engine dynamometer and component bench tests

• Lead the calibration and validation of electronic control unit parameters to satisfy program objectives

• Conduct detailed data analysis, determine/guide next steps and maintain project timelines

• Develop project status reports and technical presentations for customers and internal management

• Mentor engineering colleagues to help grow the technical expertise in the organization

• Participate in customer meetings and support the development of technical project proposals

• Work closely with design and simulation engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related attributes for new engine programs

• Work closely with control systems engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related control software algorithms for new engine control features

• Prepare and present final project reports that provide interpretation of collected data and summarize key technical findings

• Support improvement of test methods and procedures

• Participate in the development of technical publications

• Fulfill and enforce FEV's ISO and Internal Quality policies as required

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field, Masters preferred

• 10+ years of experience in calibration and/or experience with powertrain development

• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and internal combustion engines

• Strong knowledge of SI combustion process

• Understanding of base engine, aftertreatment and/or hybrid electronic control system strategies, knowledge on software logic implementation and control system functionality

• Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools (i.e., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink)

• Experience leading technical project teams and mentoring team members

• Project leadership experience, analytical problem solving, and strong interpersonal skills

• Professional communication skills (oral and written English)

• Must be a motivated team player ready to perform in fast paced development environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of control strategies employed on Bosch and/or GPEC controllers

• Experience in aftertreatment system calibration

• Knowledge of hybrid powertrain systems

• Strong understanding of US emission regulations and certification test procedures

• Understanding of US OBD regulations and monitoring approaches

• Exposure to hybrid system controls

• Hands-on experience with engine hardware engine assembly or rebuilding

• US citizen or Permanent Residence a plus
