Description

Performs specialized work as it pertains to coaching the swim team programs at Sherando and/or Clearbrook Pools.

  • Design workouts for swim team participants.

  • Serve on the Shenandoah Valley Swim League board as a liaison for Sherando and/or Clearbrook Swim Teams.

  • Set up meet schedule in conjunction with the Shenandoah Valley Swim League for Sherando and/or Clearbrook Swim Teams.

  • Supervise swim team practices and workouts for swim team participants

  • Supervise swim meets for swim team participants.

  • Report any problems/disturbances to immediate supervisor on duty.

  • Maintain positive communication with the public.

  • Be prepared to start practice as scheduled.

  • Understand and implement the emergency plan.

  • Enforce pool and park rules and regulations as it pertains to swim team participants.

  • Serve as a liaison between Frederick County Parks and Recreation and the general public.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age at time of application.

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Previous coaching experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of general coaching practices.

  • Knowledge of swimming techniques.

  • Familiarity of aquatic facilities.

  • General knowledge of aquatic safety.

  • Possess a positive attitude and demonstrates excellent communication skills.

  • Current certification in American Red Cross Basic Lifeguarding preferred but not required.

  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR preferred but not required.

Supplemental Information

Physical Demands: Requires good physical condition -- regular physical effort including but not limited to walking, talking, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, swimming, diving, treading water, sitting and gripping. Working and lifting equipment and materials over 25 pounds is common. Ability to work outdoors in high or low temperatures with wet/humid conditions nights, weekends and holidays.
