Description
This is an on-call position where we will reach out to you as-needed to provide coverage when employee(s) are out sick or on vacation. The jobsite of convenience center may vary based on the need.
SUMMARY:
Provides assistance to citizens utilizing the landfill citizen’s convenience center. Ensures that citizens dispose of waste in proper locations and assist in maintaining convenience center facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates trash compactor.
Provides traffic control at convenience site and assists waste haulers.
Polices refuse and recycling collection areas for misuse and violations of regulations.
Curtails illegal dumping by non-County residents and any businesses.
General upkeep of convenience site and grounds, including but not limited to litter control, raking and minimal snow and ice removal as required.
Performs routine preventative maintenance of equipment.
Interacts with public in cooperative and professional manner.
Assists in off-loading of vehicles as needed.
Assists with E-Cycle collections;
Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION: Some high school education preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Some experience in the performance of manual work is preferred.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Ability to operate small engine equipment (e.g., leaf blowers, trimmers, etc.) if required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires physical effort working almost exclusively with refuse containers and bags (up to 35 pounds for an extended period of time) including but not limited to walking and standing, talking, stooping, sitting, kneeling, bending, reaching and gripping. Position requires flexible work schedules – including holidays and weekends.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor work is conducted in variable weather conditions – including extreme heat/cold. Exposed to high or low temperatures, humid conditions, and other unfavorable weather conditions throughout the year.
