Singapore American School Staging and Rigging Specialist in United States
This role is an amazing opportunity to work in our state of the art performance spaces as our Staging and Rigging Theater Specialist.
Singapore American School puts on a variety of Performing Arts events every year, including Dance, Music, Drama, and Musical Theater performances.
We host them in a variety of venues, including:
Auditorium - an 840 seat, our Constellation-equipped proscenium theater
Drama Theater - a 305 seat, Greek amphitheater-styled theater
Theater Studio - a 120 seat black box flexible performance space
Elementary Theater - a 350 - 650 seat proscenium theater
The role will allow you to have significant artistic and creative control over the events you participate in, but also allow you to support and educate student technicians learning these skills and empowers you to hand over the reins to them.
Our ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader and team player with significant stage management and theater experience.
Responsibilities:
Be responsible for the Staging and rigging equipment across our several performance spaces
Understand how to weight and operate a counterweight fly system
Understand safe rigging practices
Design and lead the construction of set and props
Delegate tasks to other members of the team and to students as appropriate, when approved by the Theater Coordinator
Keep the staging areas in a clean and orderly condition
Be responsible for the management of the scene dock / workshop, backstage equipment, prop and costumes stores and dressing rooms
Have a high understanding and respect of Work Safety and Health policies and ensure they are being followed at all times, report any concerns to the Theater Coordinator
Attend production meetings and contribute to them with your own ideas and suggestions for each show
Understand and be willing to learn how to install elements into set like lighting or speakers
Present ideas for what training is necessary to advance skills in Stage Management and Rigging, or other viable avenues.
Be present for all performances and rehearsals to manage the stage, set, flys, etc, and educate the students of the roles and responsibilities of a Stage Manager and the backstage team.
Lead and supervise the load in / load out and build on stage and ensure that it is constructed in a safe and structurally sound manner. Report any concerns to the Theater Coordinator so that solutions can be found.
Book and lead the Custodian staff when needed on events / performances
Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all staging and rigging equipment in the workshop and across the performance spaces, working closely with the rest of the theater crew for support for big projects
Responsible for troubleshooting, fault finding, repairs of all departmental equipment
Supporting other members of the crew on their own projects.
Clearly communicate your projects and the support needed in regular production meetings. Requesting casual support / external contractors as needed
Experience in writing Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments and SOPs and applying that to projects we produce
Participating in the procurement and maintenance of our inventories
Handover responsibilities during leave to other members of the team to ensure a seamless transition during absence, accept temporary assignments when others are on leave
Confident in asking for help when needed.
Support basic AV and lighting for presentations (simple and training will be provided)
Model good industry practices to our students and colleagues.
Perform other duties or appropriate requests as assigned by the Theater Coordinator.

Clear communication skills, transparency with the team and management of the projects you’re working on
Have a strong responsibility for your area of expertise, but willing to work outside of your main role to support projects
Positive attitude and capable of working under pressure.
During production phase of projects willing to adapt to the changing needs of the event
Assume positive intent with all your interactions

Comfortable working at height
Essential Skills
Diploma in Technical Theater or equivalent is desirable
Experience working in a theater as a Stage Manager or similar
Knowledge and understanding of Theatrical standards and expectations
Knowledge and experience in building sets and props
Enthusiasm towards developing your skill set yearly using the provided Personal Professional Development (PPD) fund.
Understanding of safe rigging practices
Have a high understanding and respect of Work Safety and Health policies and ensure they are being followed at all times and work with the theater team to resolve them.
Desirable Skills
Work at Height qualification is desirable
Single Vertical Platform Lifter License is desirable
Experience working in the entertainment industry is desirable
Experience in rigging safely and rigging qualifications
Experience designing and building sets
Enthusiasm towards developing your skill set yearly using the provided PPD fund.
You must be prepared to work long and unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
