FEV North America, Inc Sr. Project Engineer in United States

TITLE : Sr. Project Engineer

DUTIES : FEV North America, Inc. seeks a Sr. Project Engineer in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Lead the creation and calibration of base engine controls, aftertreatment controls, hybrid controls, and onboard diagnostic ("OBD”) systems; Oversee, coordinate, and conduct general powertrain development, testing, validation, and certification activities to be performed on-road, as well as, on chassis and engine dynos; Communicate with the customer and internal teams to develop test plans and track calibration progress towards milestones; Work with internal network systems to request test support; Report on testing efficiency and resource downtime; Lead and execute various engine, aftertreatment, and hybrid system development programs; Support the use of internally developed FEV tools (TopExpert) to conduct development activities; Support the development of new toolchains to support calibration and validation efforts; Support refinement of FEV processes and procedures; Apply and train project engineers for project execution and team growth, which includes mentoring project engineers on emissions and OBD regulations and the overall calibration process; Create training materials and manuals to support the training of current and future team members; Train subordinates on project execution and applicable engine / aftertreatment technology; Develop the technical team by leading training sessions; Present to program manager or supervisors at FEV, as well as, to FEV customers and technical community; Create technical presentations that summarize / detail the results of testing activities; Summarize project status and progress, as well as, deliver project status presentations to customers; Present testing results to customers and propose next steps to customers based on testing results; Present technical topics at conferences, as well as, create technical papers and presentation material; Conduct data collection and analysis of test data to prepare for discussion with internal FEV team and/or FEV customers; Use commercially available and FEV in-house tools to help the project teams consolidate and analyze project data; Support the team to enable data to be post processed effectively and to evaluate data quality; Validate data to prepare for delivery to the customer; Review and analyze data gathered by the project team to support achievement of project goals, as well as, communicate test results to the customer; Support with the setup/configuration and troubleshooting of data acquisition systems (Inca/ADAPT/ Morphee); Apply internally developed FEV tools to post process data; Coordinate troubleshooting of test instrumentation and data acquisition, including data quality verification; Support and mentor the project team in evaluation of collected data to verify data acquisition system, data quality, and engine health; Effectively communicate with operations staff to conduct testing and resolve issues, as well as, to troubleshoot powertrain system and engine health issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering and 36 months of experience in the job offered or related.

Required experience must include: Experience with CARB, EPA regulations and standards; Experience applying thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to the development of internal combustion engines; Experience with CI and SI combustion processes; Experience developing diesel aftertreatment systems; Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools; Experience gathering data and conducting run testing on engine dyno, in-vehicle and on chassis dyno; Experience interpreting emissions results and assessing the impacts of proposed base calibration changes to emissions performance; Experience applying calibration processes to create and execute test plans, define calibration settings, and evaluate various noise factors; Experience analyzing engine and aftertreatment control algorithms to create experiments to validate new controls functionality.
