Senior Copywriter & Editor
Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly professional Senior Copywriter & Editor to join us in our Scottsdale, AZ or Lansdowne, VA office. As the Sr. Copywriter & Editor, you are a vital part of the Communications Team. In this role, you will report to the Content Director on the Constituent Communications team and are responsible for producing frequent and compelling content that inspires action to a broad audience through direct mail, email, and web content to meet fundraising and advocacy objectives.
Your Essential Responsibilities:
In this position, you will:
Write regular content for direct mail and digital monthly fundraising campaigns, including appeal letters, newsletters, proposals, emails, web content, and more
Simplify complex legal and cultural issues into clear, concise, and engaging content that helps users understand why they should care, how it affects them, and what they can do to take action
Edit and review the work of others to ensure strong, consistent messaging and build up and train writers on the team
Act as a frontline brand manager by shaping the audience’s perception of Alliance Defending Freedom and work with other Team Members to ensure content speaks with one voice and is consistent with legal objectives, messaging, and brand guidelines
Occasionally work cross-team to craft content for Faith & Justice magazine, opinion editorials, web articles, and other channels as needed
Stay updated on new developments and trends in fundraising and marketing communications

Skills you need to succeed:
Knowledge of:
Fundraising writing principles and techniques; experience in direct mail preferred
Project management skills and keen attention to detail preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in:
Strong fundraising, marketing, creative, and persuasive writing skills
Writing and editing clear and compelling copy that meets the desired voice, tone, and message
Meeting the desires and needs of various customers or stakeholders
Organization and attention to detail
Using Microsoft Office tools
Ability to:
Write creatively and persuasively and use action-oriented language for a variety of channels
Manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines
Multitask with a strong attention to detail
Think creatively, problem solve, and be flexible
Take initiative and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Work effectively both cross-team and independently
Simplify complex issues and jargon into clear and engaging messages
Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field
5-7 years’ experience as a copywriter
Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy, website Content Management Systems (CMS), and working knowledge of basic HTML elements preferred
Experience in fundraising preferred, including email, digital, direct mail, major donor experience or experience writing foundation proposals or reports
