Job Description
Persistence Prep seeks a highly qualified School Counselor with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior supports. The School Counselor helps coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans that address scholars' behaviors and provide a means to help the scholars become more academically successful. The School Counselor also provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies, runs small social emotional groups, and provides individual counseling to scholars. The School Counselor is responsible for building strong and positive relationships with scholars and families, using data to tailor their instruction, and actively engaging in collaboration with their colleagues.

Execute school-wide systems and structures that maximize scholar
Reinforce a disciplined culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
Collaborate with the Scholar Support Team to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program
Implement activities to help scholars meet academic and social goals
Manage family relationships for scholars on your caseload who receive counseling services and respond to family concerns promptly and effectively
Provide crisis intervention and behavior management to build scholars' ability to meet our school's high expectations.
Provide one-on-one counseling or group counseling as needed by scholars and
Develop and implement curriculum for social and emotional development with
Partner with other school leaders and staff members to design and coordinate family engagement and family education activities, including but not limited to workshops to educate families, staff, or scholars on specific issues, potlucks, family nights, and/or other community-building events
Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide
Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours (i.e. families nights, scholar performances, conferences, and family orientations)
Actively participate in professional development sessions
Complete all duties and tasks as assigned.

Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function -based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual scholars.
Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, self-motivation, and "roll-up-my-sleeves"
Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with diverse audiences including scholars, staff members, families, and community
Solutions-focused style that encourages teamwork and collaboration to support the development of
Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom
Ability to stay organized and effective despite a highly variable daily
Commitment to a results-driven approach, with a strong ability to analyze data and use it to inform
Proven track record of supporting scholars to achieving high levels of growth (academic and behavioral).
Experience working in urban schools at the elementary level is highly
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or advanced degree
