Description

Work is performed under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Departments Program Supervisor, Operations Manager, basicREC Manager, Marketing Manager or Park Manager. Interns will assist, shadow and/or perform assigned task for each division and/or facility within the department including recreation, administration, facilities, and parks maintenance. Interns will be paid an hourly wage and will receive college credit as defined by their college or university’s curriculum.

  • Assist with the various department programs, events, facilities, and maintenance tasks including but not limited to the organization and implementation of youth/adult programming, facility and event management, and field maintenance/preparation.

  • Prepare reports and other documents used for the operations of the department including but not limited to participant rosters, league/tournament schedules/standings, promotional/marketing statistical reports, and field maintenance.

  • Attend meetings associated with the department and affiliated groups including departmental meetings and trainings, volunteer coaches’ meetings/trainings and maintenance equipment operations.

  • Assist with the development and participation of Frederick County Parks and Recreation’s philosophy and objectives.

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all Frederick County Parks and Recreation’s affiliated groups, Frederick County Public Schools, staff, and volunteers.

  • Shall perform other duties as designated by their immediate supervisor.

Supplemental Information

  • Minimum age 18 years at the time of application.

  • Declared major/minor within the parks and recreation leisure services, physical education or related field of study or related degree, with an approved education institution.

    This work requires occasional exertion of up to 40 pounds of force to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, sitting, gripping, pulling, lifting, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
