Indian Health Service Medical Support Assistant in United States

Summary The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (Purchased Referred Care (PRC) under the general administrative and professional direction of the Supervisory Health System Specialist (PRC). The individual is responsible for providing support and technician services for the PRC program. Billings, MT Location Only - This position is eligible for workplace flexibilities which may include remote work or telework options, and/or flexible work scheduling. Responsibilities Assist in determining patient eligibility, scope and priority for the PRC program. Responsible for effective and maximum utilization of PRC funds, and for maintaining a follow up system. Responsible for keeping up-to-date pending claims. This is an open continuous vacancy announcement and applications will be referred when Service Unit enters vacancy into HRX and approved in EHCM. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. Experience and Education Requirements Overview: GS-4:1 year of general experience or 2 years of education above high school GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-04 OR 4 years above high school GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:GS-5: Respond to inquiries and requests through telephone, correspondence and personal visits. Experience in funds control techniques and monitoring and accounting for funds allotted.GS-6: Assure funds have been obligated within deadlines, unused obligations are cancelled and re-obligated. Assist in determining patient eligibility. Maintain obligation registers regarding funds for inpatient and outpatient services.GS-7: Experience in applying policies, procedures, rules and regulations when determining patient eligibility, availability of services and identification of fiscal resources. Manage funds control techniques to account for allotted funds and preparing statements and reports. General Experience --Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience --Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Education: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Time In GradeFederal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
