SUMMARY: Performs routine, unskilled manual work.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements for this position include, but are not limited to, those outlined below. Operates small engine equipment (mowers, weed eaters, etc.).
Controls traffic during road maintenance operations.
Maintains trash collections from shop, office, 2 mail houses, 2 playgrounds, 3 bus shelters, beach area, and picnic shelters.
Operates pickup truck with a snowplow and salt hopper for snow removal.
Assists in culvert installations.
Keeps shop area clean.
Assists with removal of dead trees and brush from right of ways.
Replaces traffic signs as needed.
Performs minor preventative maintenance of equipment.
Paints buildings and equipment.
Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals and other materials, tools and equipment.
Digs shallow trenches and ditches, and cleans and repairs catch basins.
Assists mowing and weed eating 40 acres of groomed grass.
Manufactures and installs wooden street signs and posts as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION: Some high school education preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months experience in the performance of heavy manual work is preferred.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Ability to operate small engine equipment (mowers, weed eaters, etc.). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Ability to work in unfavorable weather conditions, emergency situations and work flexible schedules including holiday/weekends and be dependable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND/OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires physical effort working almost exclusively with moving and lifting items up to 80 pounds for an extended period of time, and walking and standing for extended periods of time, talking, stooping, sitting, kneeling, bending, reaching and gripping. Position requires being on call for emergencies and non-business hours and work flexible schedules – including holidays, weekends and during snow storms/other emergencies.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor work is conducted in variable weather conditions – including extreme heat/cold. Exposed to high or low temperatures, humid conditions, and other unfavorable weather conditions throughout the year.
