Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese Housing Specialist in United States

The Housing Specialist position is responsible for finding affordable and secure permanent housing for recently arrived refugees. This role requires building relationships with landlords and property owners and working closely with case managers to identify housing needs in the Chicago area and nearby suburbs. The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated and organized individual with good multitasking abilities, and capable of maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Essential Functions of the position are detailed below, and include any physical requirements below that.* Conduct research through phone calls, online, in-person, and community connections to identify suitable rental properties and apartments.* Develop relationships with property owners, landlords, and property managers through ongoing outreach.* Conduct site visits and evaluate housing units to ensure they meet federal and local housing standards.* Negotiate lease terms with landlords, assist newly arrived refugee clients and landlords in understanding their respective roles and responsibilities, and help clients sign leases and/or housing agreements.* Once housing is secured, the Housing Specialist will work with the Finance staff to ensure payment of the security deposit, move-in fee, and rent. Will also collaborate with the case managers to coordinate the move-in date, utility hookup, furniture, and other essential supplies requests to guarantee that all household furniture and supplies are placed in the apartment before the refugees arrive.* As needed, will collaborate with the case managers, greeting refugees at the airport, transporting them to temporary or permanent housing, and providing support during their adaptation to the United States.* It may be required to work outside of regular business hours to fulfill clients' needs.* Participate in weekly meetings with all staff to ensure all services are provided to clients in a timely manner according to the Cooperative Agreement so that the client can reach self-sufficiency.* Essential functions may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
