Description

This position will lead and produce conceptual design activities for TriMet with respect to corridor and other transit Engineering & Construction projects, primarily in planning, project development and pre-preliminary engineering stages. It will develop and coordinate designs for transit centers, layovers, enhanced transit corridors/Better Bus, Bus Rapid Transit, Light Rail and Streetcar. Manage design and planning tasks for regional high capacity corridor projects in the FTA Capital Investment Grant program, including alternatives analysis, development of Locally Preferred Alternative, conceptual design, cost estimating, project development and risk assessment. Lead, produce, and/or manage development of specific alternative analysis products including conceptual designs, urban design, ADA improvements, transit station layout and designs, conceptual capital and operations cost estimates (independently and/or in support of estimating engineers), travel times, impact narratives and other products as needed. Provide coordination between TriMet and partnering and government agencies and lead TriMet's participation in design efforts for major planning studies and projects. Ensure intra-agency coordination as needed. Understand and reflect, in all planning and conceptual design efforts and products, equity, safety and operational needs of TriMet services, as well as, the capital and operational cost implications of alternatives.

This position requires three (3) days a week in office.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers' experiences and of TriMet's product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

  1. Lead, produce, and/or manage conceptual design for TriMet capital projects planning in the pre-preliminary engineering phases of development, especially regional high capacity corridor projects through the FTA Capital Investment Grant program.

    1. Manage tasks, intra-agency efforts and consultants in developing analysis and conceptual design, project development and pre-preliminary engineering for transit projects large and small.

    2. Perform lead role in presentation and discussion of conceptual design proposals and processes, as well as their state of development and implications, to decision makers, regional partners, community groups, and technical staff.

    3. Engage project stakeholders (federal, state, regional and local jurisdictions) in development of design concepts, solutions to problems and mitigation for project impacts through planning processes, small group meetings, committees and design charrette sessions.

    4. Coordinate joint projects with internal and external groups. Facilitate transition of projects from conceptual design to preliminary and final engineering and provide support for refinement of conceptual designs.

    5. Prepare transit design and planning processes and deliverables for inclusion in community and regional plans and programs.

    6. Conduct conceptual design tasks to support corridor planning, service planning and regional planning and coordination activities.

    7. Apply accepted, innovative, and creative design concepts to the development of transit capital projects, including high capacity transit projects.

    8. Seek partnership with public and private entities to advance design and potential implementation of projects.

Position Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required (Civil, Traffic or Transportation), Landscape Architecture, Architecture, City or Urban Planning, or related field is required.

A minimum of four (4) years total credited experience.* Progressively responsible design experience in conceptual design, transportation design, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or engineering (required).

Emphasis (preference) will be given to experience in practical urban and/or transit/transportation facilities design, conceptual design, demonstrated project management skills, and site planning.

Or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Wage Range

Minimum: $46.69/hour

Maximum: $70.04/hour

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
