Singapore American School Casual Wardrobe Theater Technician in United States

The Wardrobe Technician (Casual) is responsible for maintaining and organizing SAS’s extensive wardrobe and props inventory.

Singapore American School puts on a variety of Performing Arts events every year, including Dance, Music, Drama, and Musical Theater performances.

We host them in a variety of venues, including:

  • Auditorium - an 840 seat, our Constellation-equipped proscenium theater

  • Drama Theater - a 305 seat, Greek amphitheater styled theater

  • Theater Studio - a 120 seat black box flexible performance space

  • Our Brand New Elementary Theater - a 350 - 650 seat proscenium theater

  • Our Brand New Elementary Multipurpose Hall

    Contract and hours of work

  • Casual Flex hours, min 4 hour call (paid at an hourly rate), average 3 days a week depending on demand

  • Entitled to breaks, OT and rest based on Government regulations.

  • Shifts offered are completely dependent on the needs of the school and applicant will be informed of their shifts in good time to respect a good work-life balance.

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure costumes are cleaned and laundered to a high standard and ready for the performances on time.

  • Manage the storage rooms to ensure that all items are stored appropriately and easy to find.

  • Create a catalog of the school’s wardrobe and props inventory digitally.

  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure costumes are prepared in dressing rooms prior to rehearsals and productions.

  • Recognise where maintenance work needs to be carried out on a costume and do basic repairs.

  • Ensure that work materials and all costumes and dressing rooms in which they work are kept in a tidy and secure manner.

  • Report any losses and unsafe practices in dressing rooms to Theater Coordinator

  • Ensure that security, safety and good housekeeping procedures for the department are properly carried out.

  • Perform other duties or appropriate requests as assigned by the Theater Coordinator.

    Requirements:

  • A working knowledge of sewing machines, overlockers and laundry equipment.

  • The ability to iron and wash clothes and clean shoes.

  • The ability to work under minimum supervision and adapt work in accordance with performance requirements.

  • The ability to work as part of a large team.

  • The ability to build respectful rapport with students and staff

  • Good communication skills.

  • A high level of self motivation.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Excited to work with student crews and willing to share your skills with them.

  • Support students and provide feedback to help them improve as technicians (through the support of the Theater Coordinator)

  • Computer literate and competent in using basic office productivity software like email and spreadsheets.
