Description and Functions
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position provides paralegal services for the Workers' Compensation Division, which includes, but is not limited to, transmitting hearing packets to the correct hearing body and preparing files for district court appeals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Compile, redact, and transmit the agency record to the appropriate court per Wyoming Rule of Appellate Procedure 12.07; receive and process contested case hearing files from the appropriate hearing agency, either the OAH or Medical Commission; combine contested case hearing file and hearing transcript into an agency record; redact index, print, and bind the agency record; draft letters of transmittal and transmit agency record to the proper court for judicial review; receive and transmit agency record to proper hearing agency on remand from reviewing court.
The paralegal typically performs the following duties daily:
Review and finalize hearing packets for transmittal to the Office of Administrative Hearings, the Medical Commission, and the Internal Hearing Unit.
Manage Internal Hearing Unit hearings, docket, and decisions.
Update and maintain workers’ compensation appeals spreadsheet and dashboard.
Process final agency orders from the Internal Hearing Unit.
Review incoming mail and email and distribute to the appropriate division.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with a working knowledge of the administrative hearing process and knowledge of Workers' Compensation.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of court, OAH, and Medical Commission procedures.
Knowledge of contested case hearing procedures under the Wyoming Administrative Procedures Act.
Knowledge of Wyoming Rules of Appellate Procedure governing the transmission of records on appeal.
Knowledge of Wyoming Rules Governing Redactions from Court Records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Legal Studies/Paralegal)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Legal Studies/Paralegal )
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Legal Studies/Paralegal )
OR
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional travel may be required
