The Opportunity
Grass Valley is seeking for a motivated and experienced Hardware Engineer to join our team in Kobe, Japan. Our Hardware Engineer develops hardware and system for video editing workstations and digital disc recorders using PC architecture.
Your Role
Hardware Product Development
Planning of new model development
Survey of the latest technology trends and roadmaps of PC products and PC components
Product development plan based on roadmaps for various hardware and OS (Windows)
Estimating development project budgets and product costs
Hardware development work
Product Specification Creation
Selection of components (performance evaluation of CPUs, motherboards, graphics boards, I/O boards, storage, etc. according to the product)
Board development (circuit design, specification creation for board designers, PCB design data inspection, board prototyping, procurement of mounting components, verification)
Chassis development (structural design, specification creation for mechanical design contractors, 3D design data inspection, sheet metal prototyping, verification)
Harness design (wiring design, specification creation for contract manufacturers, prototyping, verification)
Prototype production (procurement of parts, assembly work)
Prototype evaluation (functional testing, debugging)
Environmental tests (temperature tests, vibration, drop, transportation tests, etc.)
EMC tests (radio wave tests, electrostatic tests, noise tests, etc.)
Acquisition of international safety standard certification for overseas export
Maintenance of existing products
Windows Version Update Verification
Application Software Upgrade Verification
Responding to changes in specifications due to the end of production of used parts
Alternate Component Selection and Verification
Issuance of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Updating manuals
Manufacturing operations
Transfer of products to factories (manufacturing contractors)
Preparation of assembly and inspection procedure manuals and technical guidance
Design, preparation, and technical guidance of product inspection equipment
Operations associated with changes in product specifications
Changes in procedure documents due to changes in parts and procedures
Responding to manufacturing process defects
Investigation of difficult-to-solve problems at the work site
Regular Factory Meetings
Quality assurance-related operations
Acquisition of Safety Standard Certification
Contact for correspondence with third-party certification bodies
Obtaining certification materials for various parts and preparing application documents, etc.
Progress management of acquisition status
Regulation of Hazardous Chemical Substances
Acquisition of survey documents (RoHS certificates, etc.) for various parts
Overall product coordination
Overseas Export Orders
Creation of the non-judgment parameter sheet
Regular Quality Meetings
Preparation of documentation
Preparation of product user guides, service manuals, etc.
Presentation of specifications to contractors, acquisition of quotations, and schedule management
Verifying Configuration Data
Support-related operations
In the event of a market problem, the support department investigates the problem that is difficult to solve.
What you Have to Offer
Experience in developing PC products (desktops, workstations) or PC based hardware products
Experience in electrical circuit design
Experience in digital board circuit design
Experience in designing and evaluating PC peripheral devices (graphics, storage, etc.)
Chassis development experience (structural design)
Practical experience in EMC tests (radio wave tests, noise tests, electrostatic tests, etc.)
Experience in outsourcing manufacturing of products (technical guidance to partner factories, coordination work, etc.)
Experience in the development of overseas export products
Experience in managing product development progress and budgets
Required Skills
Bachelors in Engineering
Business English is necessary.
Knowledge of PC architecture
Knowledge of electrical circuit design and digital circuit design
Knowledge of board product development procedures
Knowledge of OS (Windows)
Knowledge of video technology
Utilize measurement equipment such as video signal waveform monitors for evaluating video products and conducting technical research.
Knowledge of safety standards, radio wave standards, etc.
Knowledge of chemical substance management (RoHS Directive, REACH regulations, etc.)
Evaluate the completeness of hardware products and assess their development and evaluation processes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in developing board products (motherboards, etc.) using CPUs (especially Intel Xeon, Intel Core-i, etc.)
Experience in the development of video products and video boards
Experience in-house design development (evaluation and verification of thermal design, robustness, durability, noise, etc.)
