Specific duties | | | include: ordering/receiving | | | consumable supplies and | | | maintaining needed inventories in | | | teaching laboratories; securing | | | bids and best prices for | | | equipment, supplies, and | | | services; maintaining equipment | | | and making necessary repairs when | | | possible; overseeing the proper | | | storage and disposal of | | | biological, chemical, and | | | radioactive materials; | | | maintenance of capital equipment | | | and chemical inventories; moving | | | equipment and setting up | | | laboratories; understanding and | | | monitoring safety conditions in | | | the department; and overseeing | | | maintenance contracts for major | | | pieces of scientific equipment. | | | The ability to work independently | | | with minimum supervision and | | | direction is essential.
