Role Value Proposition : MetLife, at the Executive level, has placed a high priority on the development of a top tier Insurance industry Global Operations Risk Framework within the Global Operations Risk Management organization in Global Technology and Operations (GTO). This is a great opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of the risk framework in a large, global institution and influence how the organization views risk. You will partner closely with business stakeholders and other corporate functions, including Corporate Risk Management, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Technology in the development and ongoing execution of the framework, while leading a team of risk professionals. The Global Operation Risk Management organization is focused on the measurement and monitoring of risk within Global Operations and understanding how the risk landscape continues to evolve over time to ensure that the risk framework is continually addressing emerging risk. The Assistant Vice President, Global Operations Risk Management is responsible for supporting the VP, Global Operations Risk Management in developing, implementing and managing the Global Operations Risk Management framework, across capabilities and regions, in support of the overall Enterprise Risk Management framework.
Support the implementation of the Global Operations Risk Management framework, while aligning with the Enterprise Risk Management agenda.
Facilitate the identification of risk, compliance, and control metrics/indicators, align to performance metrics, and implement near-time dashboard reporting to provide business insights for decision making and managing risk.
Proactively identify and monitor the risk (inclusive of emerging risk) and control environment leveraging existing risk assessments (e.g. ERSA) or assist with building new risk assessment capabilities.
Monitor the Global Operations risk profile in context to the risk appetite and tolerances defined by the second line of defense.
Partner with business capabilities globally to implement a sound risk and internal control environment.
Reinforce culture of accountability and ownership for risk and implementation and execution of key controls across Global Operations.
Advise Global Operations leaders on the risk considerations for significant business and operational changes (e.g. new products, new initiatives, new technology, etc.).
Identify, assess and escalate issues and challenges encountered while executing upon the Global Operations risk management agenda, providing recommendations for resolution.
Proactively manage issues and root cause analysis process (remediation/tracking/monitoring/reporting).
Plan and execute cross-region risk and compliance initiatives, implementing required changes with Audit and Compliance and coordinating efforts across the business areas and technology.
Prepare materials for existing risk governance committees and other forums.
Assist with adopting a continuous improvement mindset in the embedding of operational excellence principles.
Assist with translating of senior management strategy/vision to develop department strategy/vision and communicate effectively to staff.
Manage a cross regional team of experts and support operating leaders in executing risk management practices.
Coordinate and collaborate, while building strong relationships, with Audit, Compliance, Operations Capability/Regional partners, Office of the Corporate Information Security Officer (CISO), and others as appropriate.
Diligently manage resources to keep expenses within prescribed budgetary limits.
Ability to travel: 20-30%
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
10+ plus years of Risk Management or related Internal Audit/risk & control environment experience, with progressive responsibility, preferably in Insurance
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Risk Management or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in development and implementation of operational risk frameworks
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills – including oral and written communications, relationship building, collaboration, and influencing – across a broad range of levels in the organization
Problem solver with the ability to translate information into actionable recommendations
Customer service orientation
Ability to work independently with flexibility and focus in a dynamic environment
CPA/CIA or other risk related certification
Knowledge of GRC technology: Open Pages, Archer, etc.
Understanding of latest risk trends in financial services
Knowledge of Global Operations processes in a financial services environment
Experience working with operations in Mexico, Japan, China, S. Korea, Gulf, Russia, Brazil, or Chile and ability to speak these languages
Experience in Fraud, Technology, Compliance, Legal/Regulatory, Third-Party and/or Business Continuity Risk
