The Department of Sustainable Resources Management at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Forest Biometrics. The successful candidate will be expected to (1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses, (2) develop an active, externally funded research program focusing on fundamental and applied approaches to modeling forest dynamics, and (3) provide statistical consulting to undergraduate and graduate student on their research activities. The position will entail teaching campus wide undergraduate and graduate courses in Applied Statistics; a course in Forest Biometrics for students in the Forest Resource Management, Forest Ecosystem Science majors, and Master of Forestry graduate degree; and an upper level/graduate course in a subject area related to quantitative methods in applied sciences.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD by start of appointment in Forestry, or a closely related science, with a focus on forest biometrics, growth and yield modelling, quantitative silviculture, and/or statistics.

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in research, teaching and service activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Publications in high-impact journals and successful grant writing.

  • Demonstrated capability as a teacher and mentor of both undergraduates and graduate students.

  • Experience providing statistical support in consulting or collaboration settings.

  • Capacity of teach courses along the topics of sampling design, regression analysis, and multivariate analysis.

  • Experience working with one or more Canadian and US growth and yield models - FVS equivalents, etc.

  • 2+ years of experience working with forest inventory data and forest growth and yield modelling.

  • Member of Society of American Foresters or ability to acquire membership.
