Indian Health Service Custodial Worker in Supai, Arizona

Summary This position is located at Supai Clinic, in the Havasupai Reservation, Colorado River Service Unit. The facility has an active outpatient department and ancillary supportive, administrative, and field health components. This position provides housekeeping and janitorial services to all functional components. IF THERE ARE LESS THAN THREE VETERANS AVAILABLE, NON-PREFERENCE ELIGIBLES MAY BE CONSIDERED. Use judgment in maintaining sanitary condition of the hospital with consideration to patients. Performs housekeeping functions such as scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, dusting and washing walls and windows. Clean lavatories, patient beds and units, vacuum carpets, cleans emergency and delivery rooms, offices and storage areas. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment; uses heavy industrial cleaning equipment and performs preventative maintenance as required. Follows the procedures of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper hospital techniques when cleaning and working in contaminated areas and isolation rooms (i.e. caps, gowns, gloves and changing uniforms daily for protection from contacting diseases). Collects and prepares soiled linen for laundry pick-up; receives and shelves clean linen. Assists with the collection and disposal of medical wastes and nonmedical wastes within the hospital. NOTE: Work requires considerable physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, or moving of heavy items. In accordance with 5 USC 3310; Custodial Worker positions are referred to as restricted positions, we must only refer qualified & available (veteran) preference eligible(s), if any. Work Schedule: 40 hours per week with rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. You will need to set up direct deposit so we can pay you. WG-2: Follow oral or written instructions and/or work orders; and performing janitorial/custodial work, including mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; cleaning walls, ceilings, and room partitions; emptying trash receptacles; performing cleanup of spills, debris, and litter from common areas; and removing soiled and/or contaminated items following strict procedures to prevent cross contamination. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has no promotion potential.
