The Loeb Education Policy Initiative in the GSE is seeking a Managing Director to work on our National Student Support Accelerator team. The Education Policy initiative works to equalize and improve educational opportunities for students by supporting implementation of the most promising educational practices. One such project is the National Student Support Accelerator, a project begun in response to the pandemic and addressing the learning and emotional needs of students. It has expanded into a research, strategic advising and engagement program aimed at increasing students’ access to the individualized supports they need to thrive. This position will devise and implement strategy decisions and play a key role in providing leadership, strategic direction and execution of the National Student Support Accelerator operations.

What You'll Do:

The Managing Director develops fundraising strategies and targets and works with research teams to develop materials (written, other) to convey these targets and opportunities. Oversees NSSA’s portfolio of programs, funds, and projects to ensure goals are met, stewardship milestones are met. Oversees the Director of Quality and Improvement, National Student Support Accelerator, and the Director of Engagement and Development, National Student Support Accelerator. The Managing Director will be responsible for working with the Executive Director (Dr. Susanna Loeb) to ensure that resource development, communications, and programmatic strategies are effectively implemented across all segments of the Accelerator.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Lead the development of the Accelerator’s strategy and operating plan with the Executive Director. This includes strategic and operational goals, supporting budget development and overseeing staff to achieve strategic and operational goals.

  • With the Executive Director will act as the NSSA expert regarding the interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that span organizational boundaries.

  • Represent NSSA at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Direct and manage outreach strategy that will include relationship development, communications, and compliance.

  • Oversee or supervise staff in the development and implementation of programs or functions.

  • Will develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.

  • Collaborate with the Director to develop a long term strategy for sustainable support for the Accelerator’s operations.

What You’ll Bring:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.

  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.

  • Relevant subject matter expertise.

  • Strong project planning and management skills.

  • Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, Accounting, Finance, and/or business management.

  • Supervisory experience with a record of mentoring and professional development.

  • Demonstrated experience with complex financials, grants, staff management, and department operations preferably in an academic setting.

  • A deep commitment to understanding the determinants and consequence of poverty and structural inequality on educational achievement and evidence-based strategies for achieving greater equity

  • Ability to develop and sustain long-term relationships and steward diverse interests; demonstrated ability to work and communicate with a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, community leaders and decision makers.

  • Experience designing and executing an inclusive vision.

The expected pay range for this position is $163,000 to $170,000 per annum.
