Trane Technologies Sr. Electrical and Microgrid Engineer in St Paul, Minnesota

This position can be located anywhere in the United States, as long as the candidate is located near a major airport. (West coast preferred, but not required)

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Federal Electrical Engineer during project development and execution, working closely with local Project Developers and Managers in a Player-Coach format (where applicable), to ensure projects are developed and constructed to the quality and specification required to meet all performance and contracted requirements.

  • Requires deep knowledge of renewable, power generation and microgrid technologies as well as integration with conventional building systems (lighting, HVAC, controls, process, etc). There must be a deep understanding of low and medium voltage electrical systems. Grid, substation, switch-station and protective gear understanding required.

  • The ability to effectively communicate with in-house personnel, customers, subcontractors, vendors and 3rd party engineers is essential.

  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop engineered Basis of Designs to meet each project’s unique needs. Create detail scopes of work, create estimates, answer engineer and subcontractor RFIs, review drawings, review and clarify bids, hold engineers accountable, and identify all risks and appropriate mitigations of renewable, power generation and microgrid related opportunities.

  • Mentors and coaches others to broaden knowledge skill-sets in support of renewable, power generation and microgrid opportunities (Player-Coach).

  • Develops strategies, techniques, and platforms to improve renewable, power generation and microgrid related business outcomes and efficiencies with a focus on engineering activities.

  • Understands and remains current regarding technology and field advancements.

  • Identifies and maintains strong relationships with industry partners, OEM suppliers, contractors, Authorities Having Jurisdictions (AHJs) and consultants.

  • Develops renewable, power generation and microgrid related content for interconnection and construction permits.

  • Serves as key educator for Energy Engineers, Project Developers and Project Managers on renewable, power generation and microgrid strategy, terminology and fundamentals of renewable energy and power solutions projects.

  • Support annual sales and business growth objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years as development, engineering, and execution in a large matrix organization. Individual must be seasoned and have considerable execution and FIELD experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in electrical engineering. Professional Engineering license strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with specifying, designing and constructing the following technologies: CHP, PV, BESS, Microgrids. Alternative fuel integration (CNG, LNG and biofuels) experience preferred.

  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills; able to present ideas to customers, engineers and subcontractors in a way that produces understanding, impact and respect.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of productivity, manage multiple competing priorities, and work effectively under the pressure of time constraints in a fast-paced, complex, collaborative, and team-oriented environment.

  • Proven consultative, development and execution skills, including the ability to discover problems and provide proactive solutions to ensure project success and customer satisfaction during execution.

  • Ability to Travel as needed. Travel tends to come in spurts. Travel is frequently both CONUS and OCONUS. Must have ability to travel internationally. Must be a naturalized United States Citizen.

  • Strong computer skills are ideal: Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, etc.), Helioscope, PVSyst, Energy Toolbase, Load Flow Software (ETAP, Easypower, SKM, etc), AutoCAD, Procore, etc.

Total Target Compensation: $150,000 – $190,000 plus bonus
