SJ is looking for a motivated Image Scientist to provide imagery science expertise supporting product quality and utility assessments of data collected with commercial imaging sensor constellations. The Image Scientist should have a working knowledge of and experience with commercial imaging sensors to include: Commercial EO (i.e. video and/or multi-sensor systems operating throughout the visible and infrared portions of the electro-magnetic spectrum) Commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Commercial Hyperspectral (HSI) Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Understanding of both operational and emerging commercial sensor constellations and the unique spectral, spatial, and temporal capabilities they provide. Leverages small satellites, space-based, airborne, and/or ground based sensors. Works within an existing team to complete tasks as prioritized by government customers. Qualifications Knowledge of tasking, collection, processing, exploitation and dissemination (TCPED) image chains Understanding and application of image quality standards (e.g. NIIRS), scales, metrics and image quality equations Experience or educational background with COTS image software (Remote View, Socet GXP, ENVI, Erdas, or similar) Experience developing engineering code (C, Python, Matlab, IDL) to solve hard problems and create processes for repeatable results. Education and Experience: Bachelor or advanced degree in Image Science, Optics, Engineering, or Applied Physics 5-10 years of experience in image processing, digital signal processing experience, or remote sensing. . Image chain analysis to include atmospheric modeling, signal quality and noise, optics, detector calibration, and image processing of pixel data Applied knowledge of sensor imaging systems, products, data formats, and exploitation processes. Strong written and oral communication skills, with emphasis on briefing to obtain decisions and solve technical issues and test plans/reports writing. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic work environment Track record of delivering results. Must have and/or be able to obtain a Security Clearance U.S. citizenship is required for this position. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
