As Ascension continues our Strategic Direction journey toward high-quality, low-cost, person-centered care for all, the rapidly evolving healthcare environment requires us to accelerate change, engage collaboratively and work together as an integrated ministry. This position, in a dyad relationship with the Chief Operating Officer of AMG, supports this endeavor with responsibility for developing and managing AMG with accountability for clinical and operational performance across the continuum of care.
The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) will be responsible for leading the employed medical group,, owned sites of care and other provider partnerships such as PSA arrangements. He/she will ensure the strategic positioning for AMG focusing on the growth and the development of the systems of care. This executive is accountable for the achievement of targets and leads clinical performance improvement for AMG. He/she recommends key aspects of performance management, including clinical performance metrics, to President of AMG.
The CCO directly manages, as part of the dyad with the Operations Leader, various roles which could include the following:, AMG quality, value-based care, research, and work with the
COO dyad partner on optimizing operations and provider engagement. It is assumed that all duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner which is consistent with the mission and reflects the Core Values of Ascension Health: Service of the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity, and Dedication.
These responsibilities include:
Responsible for overall AMG strategy for clinical quality, service line optimization, and patient outcomes within AMG.
Provides strategic leadership and guidance in anticipating and seizing opportunities for growth.
Provides input to the AMG President regarding strategy, acquisition targets and major capital investments.
Accountable for Clinically Integrated System of Care performance targets.
Responsible for employed and PSA physician relations and engagement.
Works on strategies to insure continuity of care.
Collaborates with ACM, Managed Care and VP of Bus development on value- based purchasing initiatives including Population health and Medicare Advantage.
Drives transition to new provider compensation model.
Determines who should participate in clinically reliable process design and implementation approach in-market.
Provides input on the design of risk-based arrangements, payers to approach for fee for value contracts and contract terms
Leads AMG performance improvement
Oversees onboarding and management of providers
Gives input to Care Excellence for the roll-out of new patient/member experience models and priority areas for clinically reliable processes
Helps to optimize EHR systems across the national Ministry
Collaborates with ACRI on data management from acquisition to analytics
Collaborates with Care Excellence on quality enterprise especially as relates to ambulatory Quality
Development/Growth of Clinically Integrated System of Care:
Provides leadership to develop, operationalize and continually improve Clinically Integrated Systems of Care in AMG, including the conceptualization and development of innovative business and care models that align incentives towards achievement of the Quadruple Aim.
Develops systems and approach to attract and retain employed physicians/other providers.
Recommends ways to engage and partner with non-employed physicians across the ministries
Provides leadership and guidance in the ongoing implementation of flexible and innovative physician alignment strategies which foster a commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, enhance patient experience and emphasize and promote the Ministry’s commitment to forging long-term partnerships with its physicians.
Champions quality and safety efforts within the Market; ensures implementation of clinically reliable process standards and patient experience improvements.
Ensures physician practice standards developed by AMG are achieved.
Recommends and manages to quality/safety/experience targets; determines what performance improvement should be undertaken across the Markets.
Ensures that market performance is aligned with Ascension Health’s practices and standards of excellence and determines interventions necessary to improve performance.
Provides leadership to AMG efforts to achieve balanced performance metrics in a manner which includes indicators related to patient and physician experience, clinical quality, and patient safety.
Collaborates with others to define needs and provide feedback on Delivery-wide services.
Recommends and manages performance targets based on measures and guidance set by AMG.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited school of medicine or an advanced degree in other clinical fields.
Experience and/or training in healthcare administration, public health, business or medical management is preferred.
A minimum of seven years of demonstrated outcome-oriented or strategic planning experience in a highly complex, multi-site facility and/or multi-site care delivery model.
