Job Description:

A RESEARCH TECHNICIAN POSITION inprotein chemistry and invertebrate biologyis available in the laboratories of Profs. Mark Martindale and Sandra Loesgen at the University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, located in St. Augustine Florida.

The technician will be part of the NSF funded, multidisciplinary project “Functional genomic dissection of biomineralization at multiple scales using a new marine model”at the Whitney Lab.

The goal is to use the starlet sea anemoneNematostellaas ‘living test tubes’ to experimentally explore marine biomineralization processes via manipulating gene expression. Specific focus is on the expression and characterization of proteins involved on biomineralization.

Responsibilities will include:Nematostella(sea anemone) animal husbandry, genetic manipulation of eggs, microscopy, protein expression inE. coliandNematostella, protein analysis via SDS pages, proteomics mass spectrometry, etc.

Full time (40h week) employment is preferred, but part time may be an option. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined based on the candidate’s preferences. The Whitney Laboratory is committed to an inclusive and supportive environment, join the team!

Expected Salary:

The position is temporary with funds available for 12 months, and compensation starting at $17/hr ($32,640 annually).

Minimum Requirements:

A BS or MS in chemistry or biology or related disciplines with some laboratory experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience in protein chemistry or invertebrate or biology is a plus.
