Job Description

Objective

The objective of the position is to coordinate activities regarding sourcing of dogs in the Grenadian community by advertising and promoting the SGU/JSAL program and collection of data regarding possible surgical candidates for JSAL. The employee will also obtain the appropriate paperwork consenting surgical procedures, assist with technical aspects of the role and communicate with owners of surgical patients regarding surgery progress updates and follow-up treatments.

Essential Functions

To work together to improve the health and safety of Grenadian citizen s and their pets on the following basis the CCPA will:

  • Publicize and organize with pet owners, dates for pick u p of their animals for Spay or Neuter surger y . This includes visiting s c hoo l s, churche s , local shops and popular areas to ex p lain the Spay/Neuter Program, which is coordinated with SGUSV M .

  • Act as d irect liaison between the pet ow n e r, SGUSVM's Jun i or Surgery and Anesthesia Lab ("JSAL") and Small Animal C linic ( "SAC" ) Surgery / Anesthesia rotation s .

  • T he CCP Coordinator i s required to be on call24 hours a da y , sev e n (7) days a week for the duration of the s c heduled neutering clinics. In the event that the CCP Co o rdi n ator i s not availabl e , the C CP Assistant sha l l fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the CCP Coordinator.

  • Assist the CCP Coordinator in the r ecruiting, organization and maintenance of contacts within the Grenadian community .

  • Share responsi b ility for the organization of program volunteers.

  • Contact owners and obtain signed written consent for the use of their pets in the SGUSV M ' s J SAL and SAC.

  • Provide the JSAL and SAC with the requested number of animals and with anim a l s deemed suitable as teaching to o l s for student s .

  • Assist with the organization of events like vaccinations (i.e. Rabies or OHOM) and/or other related activities within Grenada.

  • Follow and maintain the guidelines of procedures or handling and treatment of animals and the use the handling and treatment of animals and the use of university facilities and equipment.

  • With the assistance of a vehicle and driver, designated by SGU, the CCPA will ensure that transportation of patients is safe.

  • In addition, the CCPA will complete any other job-related assignments that may be given by the CCP Coordinator and/ or the Course Director of Small Animal Medicine & Surgery lab.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • The CCPA must have knowledge of basic computer skills and will receive training to navigate the medical records program.

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies within a university setting and with external organizations.

  • Demonstrate high level of confidence in making strategic decisions, using good judgment, and innovative and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, time management, customer service skills and a demonstrated high-level of discretion, tact, and diplomacy.

  • A commitment and personal responsibility for safety and safety concerns by promoting safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.

  • Must be well organized and detailed oriented.

  • Understanding and love for animals.

  • Have experience with dogs and willingness to learn.

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Activities related to this position will be in the field, community or SVM Junior Surgery and Anesthesiology Laboratory and requires some physical activity for sourcing and lifting surgical patients, up to50 lbs.

    Hours and Travel

  • No international travel is expected for this position.

  • This position is considered a shift position and the hours of work during the 40 hour

    week is determined by the employee’s supervisor.

  • The employee will be allowed 2 days off during a 7 day work week at the discretion of

    his/her supervisor.

    Qualifications

  • Veterinary Technician Certification or experience in a related field of work.

  • Valid D class License preferred.
