Emperical Foods QA Inspector - Temporary Summer Work in South Sioux City, Nebraska

Overview

The Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector position monitors quality standards throughout the facility and surrounding grounds. This may include verification of raw material receipt, product sample collection (raw and finished), and finished product verification tasks. QA Inspectors are required to lift and move raw material samples and boxed products. QA inspectors are team members in the overall management of the facility. QA Inspectors may be expected to conduct tests and pilot runs of new or improved products and evaluate the results of these pilot programs. QA inspectors may prepare technical reports detailing results of research and development (R&D). QA Inspectors may assist R&D in developing products that are compliant with our quality, safety, value, and wholesomeness expectations. QA Inspectors are responsible for collecting samples and performing various tests. QA inspectors may be required to analyze the results from testing. This analysis may include trending results, evaluating quality and functionality, and further validation of the findings. QA Inspectors may also be expected to provide feedback and insight regarding equipment and program design.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all machinery and structures to ensure compliance with established standards. This includes cleanliness inspections (pre-operational inspection) following sanitation activities and prior to start-up of operations. This may include communication of findings, to management, when areas do not meet cleanliness standards and assisting with corrective actions and re-inspection.

  • Perform audits, monitoring for potential foreign material sources and raw material quality evaluations. When necessary, findings will be communicated to management in a timely manner. QA Inspectors may evaluate equipment and perform verification activities such as: scale evaluations, swab tests, sensitivity of metal detection systems, and sanitizing equipment functionality assessments.

  • Responsibility of maintaining compliance through monitoring and inspection of the condition of various areas. These areas may include freezers, hand-wash sinks, locker rooms, overhead structures, ceilings, outside grounds, docks, drains, and pest control. Inspections include monitoring employee’s adherence to the Good Manufacturing Practices and Hygiene policy (i.e., proper use of hairnets, beard nets, frocks, gloves, etc.). Findings of these inspections will be communicated with management in a timely manner, when necessary.

  • Responsibility for inbound inspection of all raw material trailers. This may include cross reference of seals with the bills of lading as well as verification of set points and temperatures. This inspection includes a verification to confirm inbound materials are from an approved supplier.

  • Accurate and timely complete product adjustment forms, damaged box reports, and raw material discrepancy forms. Each of these will be reported to the appropriate corporate personnel in a timely manner.

  • Collect scheduled product samples that will be utilized for various microbiological and analytical tests. This includes accurately recording sampling data, accurate labeling, correct packaging, and proper shipping of the samples to a specified laboratory.

  • Inspect finished product which may include retention for additional inspection and communication with management to stop production, when necessary.

  • Measure and record quality factors of finished products such as enhancement percentages and temperature.

  • Inspect and manifest all finished product. Other activities may include visual inspection of product, identification of potential leakers, packaging inspection, product temperature, sample collection, etc. QA Inspectors will manage finished product labeling changes and verification of the applied labels. QA Inspectors will verify the accuracy of product scales and report compliance issues/failures to management in a timely manner.

  • Assistance in all other areas as needed. QA Inspectors will evaluate relevant supply and material inventories.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic math and writing skills.

  • General computer knowledge and proficiency.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources.

  • Self-directed.

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of employees as necessary, both in verbal and written form.

  • Must have regular and punctual attendance.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 60lbs.

  • This position requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, reaching, bending, and lifting.

  • Must be willing and able to work any hours, including weekends.

Experience: Experience in a food or restaurant environment is preferred.Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Verifiable ability to perform essential job functions will be considered.Department: Quality Assurance
