Job Title: Community Safety Instructor Department: Aquatics

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Safety Instructor teaches courses in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED and Babysitter training following the American Red Cross standard curriculum in a way that nurtures and supports the needs of program participants. It is the goal of all Safety Instructors to ensure that they are creating certified professionals who can assist in risk scenarios.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates a positive-learning environment to facilitate the needs of participants in the program.

  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.

  • Completes required rosters and certification cards for classes taught.

  • Maintains and orders equipment as required to ensure all participants have the correct resources for the class.

  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.

  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications: LGI Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.

  • Ability to train all learning levels and styles.

  • At least 18 years of age.
