Position Summary

The Department of Counseling & Development in the College of Education at Slippery Rock University is seeking a full-time, temporary instructor with the qualifications to teach across the following programs: MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education, MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education with College Counseling, and EdD in Educational Leadership and Administration/Higher Education Concentration.

As a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, SRU provides a low-cost quality education, making it an attractive choice for low-income, first generation, and other disadvantaged populations. SRU’s MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education program is one of oldest student affairs graduate programs in Pennsylvania. As such, the SAHE program has an active national network of alumni. SRU is located 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a region with numerous post-secondary institutions of higher education that support graduate assistantship and internship opportunities for students in the program.

The MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education program engages students in a blended format using high impact teaching practices that promote deep learning and the application of theory to professional practice. The EdD program in Educational Leadership and Administration/HE Concentration is a fully asynchronous online program that focuses on the skills and knowledge necessary for a variety of leadership positions in educational institutions.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching in-person, blended, and online courses and advising students. Master’s and Doctoral level teaching may include, but is not limited to the following courses: Organizational Theory, Higher Education Environments, Higher Education Law and Policy, College Student Developmental Theory, Introduction to Student Affairs.

Additionally, the successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to positively contribute towards an environment of professionalism, collaboration, and collegial engagement. Candidates who are committed to addressing issues of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion within the field of student affairs/higher education are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Teach graduate-level courses in student affairs/higher education (master’s/doctoral)

  • Advise students

  • Supervise fieldwork experiences (master’s)

  • Engage in scholarly activities

  • Provide service to the profession and department

    Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Higher Education or closely related area of study.

Teaching experience in graduate level student affairs/higher education coursework.

Professional work experience in Student Affairs/Higher Education settings.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the education of diverse populations.

Successful performance in an interview, including teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of a commitment to addressing issues of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, advising and/or scholarship.

Perceived ability to work productively with students and colleagues.

Experience in teaching/advising at both the Master’s and Doctorate levels.
