Responsibilities
  • Teaches approved content daily via Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) to students located world-wide.
  • Monitors, tracks and evaluates student progress. Notifies administrators and counselors of any student progress issues. Communicates regularly with appropriate staff, students and administrators.
  • Creates a positive learning environment for students and establishes good rapport with stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with other teachers to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.
  • Individualizes instruction based on student need.
  • Coordinates with Special Education and English Second Language staff to provide accommodations and/or modifications for students.
  • Establishes office hours to meet the needs of students n a variety of time zones.
  • Utilizes synchronous tools to provide same-time support for students.

Qualifications

A major in computer science, a minimum of 18 SH in computer science or 12 SH in computer science with additional qualification as a teacher of mathematics, science, or business is required. Course work must include programming languages such as JAVA, C++, VISUAL BASIC or other equivalent computer programming course work.

Education

A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association is required. Academic preparation of at least 40 semester hours (SH) in general education course work distributed over such fields as English, history, social studies, mathematics, fine arts, languages, science, philosophy, and psychology is required. In addition, a minimum of 18 SH of professional teacher education course work in such areas as learning process, tests and measurement, educational philosophy, psychology, social foundations, methods of teaching and curriculum applicable to the type and level of the position for which applying is required.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Once your complete application is received (via EAS) and the announcement has closed, we will conduct an evaluation of your qualifications and determine your ranking. Regency of experience in computer science courses such as AP Computer Science, Java 1 and Java 2, and Coding is highly desirable. The most highly qualified candidates will be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration and possible interview. Experience with the following is required:

  • Experience in teaching via online learning or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System (e.g. Schoology, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Google Applications for Education, and multimedia applications.
  • Experience utilizing asynchronous tools (emails, discussion boards, collaboration tools, etc.) and synchronous tools (instant messaging, web conferencing, etc.) to support online education.
  • Experience in working with high school students with an emphasis on supporting at risk learners.
