Amazon Search Experience Science is looking for a seasoned leader who has strong customer obsession, a track record of delivering high quality software, and the curiosity to learn the state of the art in AI. A successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, and strong business acumen and judgment. Strong Amazon leaders are visionaries who are not afraid of rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty. You will paint an inspirational vision for the future of Amazon Search’s customer experience, and build strong a team to fulfill that vision. As a senior leader, you will rethink the assumptions behind traditional e-commerce experience and leverage AI to make the shopping journey of each customer a delightful one. You will lead a diverse organization of scientists and engineers to define metrics that measure customer experience and identify opportunities to help customers shop with ease and confidence. You will be part of the Search technical leadership community that forms the backbone of the company. You will play a critical role in business planning, work closely with senior executives, and influence our long-term technical and business strategy.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build a long-term vision and drive the roadmap for your areas

  • Collaborate with other leaders across engineering, science, product, and design

  • Develop your team’s careers, matching each person’s needs with the right project on the roadmap

  • Experiment with cutting edge ML and optimization techniques

  • Guide your team as they navigate complex architectural designs, make technical trade-offs, and implement key features.

  • Make decisions requiring high judgement, pulling the appropriate data where possible

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
