WSP is currently seeking an exceptional candidate for a full-time Lead Water Resources Engineer for our Seattle office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and overseeing stormwater analysis and roadway design projects, with an emphasis on water projects including stormwater and sanitary sewer design. Experience with utilizing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), low impact development (LID) techniques, bioretention and infiltration as design options, and understanding the advantages/limitations of each is desired. Previous project design experience with WSDOT Hydraulics Manual and WSDOT Highway Runoff Manual is desired.

Ability to work with other engineering disciplines, owner and design team to implement utility design in a manner that balances cost of construction, maintenance and effective use of right-of-way is essential. Acting as a specialist in providing technical guidance for complex and unique assignments requires an ability to apply diversified knowledge of water-related design principles and practices, as well as independent decision-making on significant technical problems or methods.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead design teams to plan and design municipal and transportation related stormwater drainage and water resources engineering projects;

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and studies and design using simulation software;

  • Prepare documents including reports, plans, specifications, and anticipated construction costs;

  • Provide technical engineering direction and workload planning as needed to junior engineering staff to maintain project scope, schedule and budget for the projects you are assigned as the design lead.

Job Requirements

Experience Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of related post-graduate work as a Civil Engineer

  • Work-related experience in hydrologic and hydraulic design of stormwater systems, including water quality treatment and flow control facilities

  • Experience with developing and overseeing plans, specifications, and technical drainage reports for public roadway projects, while ensuring complete, accurate work in accordance with good engineering practice

  • Experience in the design of stormwater and sanitary conveyance systems

  • Experience with Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) projects and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Local candidates preferred. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this job position.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D design software.

Education and Certifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program

  • Current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) in Washington State.
