Overview

You will join the Human Factors & Experience Design (HFXD) team and help shape OTTAVA™, Johnson & Johnson's new surgical robotic system.

As a Human Factors Engineer, you will contribute to Human Factors workstreams that are essential to the success of Ottava. You will contribute to usability activities with mentorship from lead Human Factors Engineers. You will work in close partnership with your colleagues to meet program objectives, using your disciplinary knowledge and passion for safety and usability to inform key design decisions!

Responsibilities:

  • Support human factors work, using best-in-class methodologies to inform rigorous decision-making

  • Support product submission deliverables

  • Act as a contributor on human factors methodologies

  • Apply knowledge of FDA, ISO, AAMI and other relevant regulations and standards

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • BS/BA Degree in Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Cognitive Science, Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent is required.

Preferred

  • Post-Graduate Degrees (MS) are a plus and will be considered as part of the applicant’s professional experience.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum Human Factors engineering experience: Bachelor’s plus 2 years, Master’s with no additional years required.

  • Experience in supporting aspects of the HFE process including ethnographic research, formative and summative studies, documentation for design control and risk management

  • Some experience working with R&D, Product Management and Implementation teams to develop a safe and effective product

  • Knowledge of human factors principles; knowledge of task and use-related risk analysis methods; basic knowledge of human perception, cognition, anthropometrics, biomechanics, and physiology.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with FDA, ISO, AAMI, and other relevant usability regulations and standards.

  • Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or Aerospace industry experience a strong plus.

Other:

  • This position is based in Santa Clara, CA and requires Ability up to 10%, international and domestic travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$101,500] to [$162,000]

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
