Audi of America, Audi Automated Driving Development (A2D2) focuses on Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) development. ADAS are electronic systems that assist drivers in driving and parking functions. Through a safe human-machine interface (HMI), ADAS increase vehicle and road safety. ADAS systems use automated technology, such as sensors and cameras, to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors, and respond accordingly. This position is located in San Jose, CA.

Role Summary:

  • This position will guide and lead ADAS/AD team members from technical standpoint
  • The role is responsible for performing application, verification and validation of ADAS features which are Lateral/Longitudinal control function (Lane Centering, Lane Keeping, ACC, ISA etc.)
  • This task will also include understanding of ADAS feature requirements, defining application process and creating the verification and validation plan of these features
  • This role also requires to drive instrumented Audi vehicle on the public road, identify problematic scenarios and perform root cause analysis of all the corner cases where there are issues ADAS features
  • The role is to support the engineering development of ADAS/AD feature for series production. The focus is development US specific feature and validation of the same. The responsibility starts with creating scenarios for each feature and generating requirement specification for software development
  • This role will be working closely with Verification & Validation engineer to support deep dive analysis of measurement data to understand feature performance and root cause analysis. The position also will be responsible testing the ADAS feature in simulation environment
  • As a part of job responsibility this position requires to coordinate with the function developers in US & Germany closely

Role Responsibilities:

Main responsibility

Application, Verification and Validation – in vehicle testing (20%)

  • Developing application process, test plan for verification and validation of ADAS features
  • Instrumenting test vehicle with measurement devices to capture data specific to test cases and scenarios. These include additional sensors (like camera, Lidar etc.) for ground-truth data collection along with Audi-specific measurement devices
  • Testing with pre-defined test cases on road (real life scenarios) and also identify, test all possible corner case scenarios to makes sure that features are performing as intended

Data analysis, finding root cause and potential solution – (30%)

  • Collect measurement data while performing on-road testing and perform analysis all relevant signals (hardware and software) in ADTF / Matlab-Simulink to understand and verify behavior of signals as per test cases. Most important is to understand the root cause of the problematic scenarios where function fails. It is expected that this position will further engage in discussion with the function owners and will find a potential solution of these problems

Market specific requirement creation for ADAS/AD L2 feature (20%)

  • Scenario creation for specific feature for US specific infrastructure
  • Requirement specification creation and modelling the same in requirement tool
  • Test catalogue creation for feature verification
  • Creation of validation strategy to detect corner cases

Ownership of L2 features for US market introduction – (10%)

  • Understanding requirement and design specification of developed features 
  • Creating test catalogue based on the design document
  • Design and perform software in loop testing (regression testing)
  • Integrate HW/SW in vehicle environment for integration testing
  • Support deep dive analysis of measurement data to understand feature performance and root cause analysis

Leading and guiding ADAS/AD team members from technical standpoint (10%)

  • Building technical competence of the team from defining calibration process, verification and validation for L2/L3/L4 system
  • Participate in technical review process
  • Technically guide new team members
  • Represent ADAS US hub as technical expert to CARIAD/Audi
  • Participate in hiring process for evaluating technical expertise
  • Foster culture of innovation

Documentation and Project Management (10%)

  • All the test cases, result and bug-fixing needs to be managed in internal tracking system as this will be the input for sign-off of the software release in production
  • Also many of the platform owners are located in Germany so it needs strong coordination/cooperation with them
  • This position is also responsible for overall management of the software release from planning, tracking and recommendation for sign-off

 

Additional responsibilities

Development of Application and Validation plan for AD L3/L4 platform 

  • This individual will be responsible for creating and supporting development plan for AD L3/4 platform for next generation platform.
  • Once current platform is launched in production this will be the main responsibility for next generation platform.
  • Algorithm and software development for next generation L3/L4 platform
  • This individual will be responsible for creating model in MatLab/Simulink and checking the same in simulation environment.
  • Once Model is verified this individual will translate the requirement in software (C ++) in Audi specific development, software integration and testing the same in SIL/HIL and vehicle.
  • Once current platform is launched this will be one of the main responsibility for next generation platform


Qualifications



Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience with verification and validation with advanced driver assisted systems; systems engineering and/or algorithm/software development

Education – Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (computer science or comparable)

Education – Desired:

  • Master’s or PhD in in Engineering (computer science or comparable)

Skills:

  • Proven expertise with Application, Verification and Validation for ADAS/AD functions: Lateral/Longitudinal control function (Lane Centering, Lane Keeping, ACC, ISA etc.)
  • Should be familiar with Vehicle Network Architecture
  • Proven experience in generating test catalogue and integration testing in ADAS/AD domain
  • Strong measurement data analysis skill
  • Should be familiar with automotive communication standards (CAN, FlexRay and Ethernet)
  • Should be familiar with in-vehicle measurement systems
  • Knowledge on industry development processes like SPICE and Scrum
