Description

The hiring pay range for Public Safety Manager : $85,484 -$106,855 annual salary.

SUMMARY

The Public Safety Manager is responsible for supervision of San Diego Theatres’ Public Safety personnel, and the fulfillment of safety and security measures for the Civic and Balboa Theatres and its supporting facilities. The Public Safety Manager provides onsite leadership in Facility Safety, access control, and event security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continuously develop personal understanding of the San Diego Theatres (SDT) Mission, Vision, and Values statements, and effectively communicate their practice and application to Public Safety team.

  • Maintain an expert level of proficiency of SDT and Public Safety Division policies and procedures and assist in developing additional policies when necessary.

  • Support the recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating Public Safety personnel. Develop and coach direct reports and team members to ensure the optimal performance and alignment with San Diego Theatres’ service standards.

  • Lead the Public Safety and venue security activities according to Division policies and standard operating procedures, including any third-party security staffing.

  • Conduct employee training in security, crime prevention, emergency response and disaster preparedness. Lead semi-annual all staff drills (i.e., fire, earthquake, active shooter, etc.)

  • Keep informed of all facility activities and ensure the scheduling and assignment of staffing is appropriate.

  • Review detailed requirements in event riders or consult with event security personnel to determine security requirements.

  • Implement and ensure facilities’ compliance with safety and emergency response evacuation policies and procedures.

  • Establish and maintain a network of other venue security professionals and agencies on a local and national level.

  • Promptly advise the Director of Public Safety of issues, incidents or vulnerabilities that may impact the safety, success or efficiency of San Diego Theatres, employees, clients, users, or the public.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve difficult and sensitive situations diplomatically and tactfully.

  • Possess exceptional ethics, honesty, integrity, complete respect for confidentiality and appropriate communication.

  • Availability to work daytime or evening shifts, including weekends and holidays. Required to be on call and accessible as needed.

  • Advanced ability to read, interpret and create documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Advanced ability to draft routine reports, correspondence, and other business-related documents.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite of tools. Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint skills a plus.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

  • Advanced ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Awareness of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, fire codes, ADA compliance).

  • Advanced understanding of event operations, including crowd management and venue organization.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field, and three (3) years of experience managing live events, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Previous experience in large public assembly facilities is highly desirable.

  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience required.

  • Experience with Municipalities a plus.

  • Experience in risk management processes, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies a plus.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate concisely. Bilingual (all languages) a plus.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patrons or employees of organization.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, tickets, and procedure manuals.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job supervises the Public Safety team, which can include the Public Safety Assistant Manager, Supervisor, Lead Officers, and Officers. Responsible for training, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Trained Crowd Manager a plus.

  • Attendance at and completion of the International Association of Venue Managers’ Academy of Safety and Security a plus.

  • Other Security Certifications a plus.

  • OSHA certifications (10hr or 30hr) a plus.

  • Work Zone Traffic Control Certification a plus.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of CCTV systems a plus.

  • Working knowledge of employee credentialing systems a plus.

  • Experience with two-way radio systems a plus.
