SUMMARY

The Assistant Chief Usher is responsible for thecoordination of the volunteer Ambassador Corps, and maintaining an active presence in the lobbyto assist bothguestsandstaff.While this is not a supervisory position, it is a leadership position.The Assistant Chief Usher isexpected to offer the highest level of service and should setan example of professionalism. The Assistant Chief Usher isexpected to carry out any job function management deems as appropriate and within the scope of caring and maintaining for the theater, customerservice, audience experience, guest and staff safety/emergency response/security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • First and foremost is a commitment to the culture and purpose of CREATE MOMENTS THAT MATTER for all employees, guests and clients.

  • Act as an example of the BRAVO service strategy to all in the division, holding themselves and others accountable to these elements at all times.

  • Maintain a competency of SDT and Front of House division policies and procedures.

  • Provide a minimum of 40% availability to the Front of House staff for shifts throughout each month.

  • Attend pre-event briefings and other trainings as required by management.

  • Provide briefing to volunteer Ambassador Corps for the assigned area of the venue.

  • Be aware of and enforce appropriate guidelines for each event.

  • Maintain designated position in the venue and actively assist guests, unless on an assigned break.

  • Must be aware of, and follow, the proper procedures for assisting guests with disabilities.

  • Identify different types of tickets, and effectively and efficiently identify seating locations. Verify by checking event date and time, and section.

  • Maintain a professional image at all times.

  • Cooperate with other San Diego Theatres team members to maintain an orderly environment, disposing of any refuse in the House Manager office, Coat Check, and the lobbies.

  • Identify possible safety concerns and communicate issues immediately to House Management or Public Safety personnel. Refer uncooperative guest to House Manager or Public Safety.

  • Insure all items found on the premises are turned into lost and found as soon as possible.

  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of venue policies and procedures for the Balboa and Civic Theatres, and an advancedunderstandingof safety and evacuation procedures from all positionswithin each venue.

  • Maintain an advanced understanding of the Front of House Audio Visual equipment at the Civic Theatre and Balboa Theatres, including patron listening assistance devices.

  • Collaborate with the House Manager and Ticketing Department to resolve Guest issues.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain composureeffectively while encountering a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness

  • Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with San Diego Theatres

  • Availability to provide a minimum availability to work 40% of the events per month, including 3 weekend shifts.

  • Ability to work the 4-hour minimum for each assigned shift.

  • Ability to independently complete a series of tasks in order

  • Possess excellent Customer Service Skills

  • Provenproblem-solvingskills

  • Possess an advanced attention to detail, particularly in terms of timing and events of note

  • Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance, adhering to San Diego Theatres uniform requirements

  • Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate concisely and understandably in the English language. Bilingual (all languages) a plus.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patrons or employees of organization.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, tickets, and procedure manuals.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities, but will have oversight of a group of volunteer Ambassadors Corps assigned to an event.
