DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES Medical Technician III-Clinical Medical Assistant in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Job/Position DescriptionMedical Technician III- Clinical Medical Assistant performs advanced (senior-level) administrative support or technical program assistance work. Work involves coordinating the dissemination of information, developing filing systems, and coordinating internal administrative support work with external entities. Works under the Outpatient Director of Nursing with limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Supports the Hansenand#146;s Disease Clinic and Inpatient Laboratory by performing clerical duties and phlebotomy procedures, as needed. May assists with inpatient and outpatient vaccinations. Essential Job Functions1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. (5%)2. Assist doctors with creating draft Admission History and Physicals, Discharge summaries, and other correspondence. (10%)3. Assist with entering patient data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and updating with additional clinical information as necessary. (10%)4. 4. Assist with researching, obtaining, and disseminating initial and updated admission clinical data, labresults, pathology reports, biopsy and sputum reports, and skin smears results from outside entities while following HIPAA guidelines. (10%)5. Preparing discharge packets for inpatients by coordinating with other departments to obtain necessary documents/images. (5%)6. Assist with obtaining Court Order paperwork at discharge. (5%)7. Assist with meeting deadlines for all History and Physicals. (10%)8. Maintaining doctors on call schedules to ensure that appointments do not conflict. (5%)9. Providing phlebotomy services to Hansenand#146;s Disease patients, employees, and inpatients and supports inpatient laboratory as needed with clerical duties. (5%)10. Assist with scheduling of initial and follow up of outside exams for inpatients such as podiatry, ophthalmology, and radiology. Includes obtaining progress notes of the visit and posting for MD and and#151; Finance to review. (10%)11. Assisting with Utilization Management by tracking types of referrals to external entities andcompiling data for review monthly by Case Manager. (5%)12. Assist Case Manager to prepare MD TB Case Conference list and track patients presented for quarterly and follow up presentations. (5%)13. General clerical duties. Answering phones, filing, typing correspondence, ordering supplies. (5%)14. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. (5%)15. Assist ICN with vaccinations. (5%)Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications1. Valid State of Texas Drivers License2. Medical Assistant Certification/Accreditation (preferred).3. Phlebotomy certification (preferred). Knowledge Skills Abilities1. Working knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and clinical pertinence.2. Knowledge of Joint Commission Guidelines.3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in creating and maintaining spreadsheets.4. Experience using Electronic Health Records required.5.
