SSM Health SSM St. Mary's Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program Core Faculty in Saint Louis, Missouri

It's more than a career, it's a calling

MO-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - St. Louis

Worker Type:

Regular

Job Highlights:

SSM Health St Mary's Hospital's Internal Medicine Residency Training Program seeks an additional core faculty member. Our program offers ten categorical first postgraduate year (PGY-1) positions in its university-affiliated, but independently-approved program.

Our residency program was accredited with commendation for ten years by the Accreditation Council for GME and participates in the National Residency Matching Program. Our program offers structured, university-style training that includes third and fourth-year medical students and full-time faculty.

We are a primary care-oriented training program designed for physicians preparing for a career in outpatient general internal medicine. As of 2019, our three year rolling ABIM pass rate was approximately 90 percent.

In addition to the traditional curriculum, our residents learn real-world requirements of today's changing practice environment. They are exposed to the basics of quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, high value care and ethical, shared decision making.

SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - St. Louis has served as a teaching hospital of the St Louis University School of Medicine since 1964. In addition to our independent Internal Medicine Residency program, St Mary's is the primary training site for St Louis University Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Medicine Residency Programs. St Louis University Gastroenterology fellows and Orthopedic residents spend considerable time on rotations at SSM Health St. Mary's.

Our outpatient internal medicine continuity clinic is an integral part of the training we offer. Residents spend time each week in this outpatient clinic, where they will follow a panel of patients throughout the course of their training. There they work under direct supervision of a dedicated clinic faculty member, along with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, clinical pharmacists and office staff. The resident serves as the primary care physician for their panel of patients and obtains training in the management of acute and chronic outpatient problems as well as documentation, coding and communication in the ambulatory setting.

Our residents also function as the resident PCP each month in subspecialty clinics, working alongside specialists from various fields.

As part of their ambulatory curriculum, residents are involved in research projects and practice improvement modules sponsored by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Resident champions lead their peer group in these important research and QI initiatives focused on fostering lifelong learning.
