Job Overview

The Families That Flourish -- Reporting to the Program Director, The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, developing, and implementation of classroom activities for infants, toddlers, preschool or school-age programs up to 12 years old. This position requires on-site, face-to-face leadership. The center's hours require full-time (40 hours/week), flexible scheduling between 6 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Multiple positions available.

COMPENSATION

 $16.50 - $18.50; Full-Time; Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)

Responsibilities for Lead Teacher

  1. Create and lead weekly plans and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that nurtures and stimulates all domains of each child's development in their care.
  2. Organizes and participates in games and activities.
  3. Provides weekly lesson plans to parents.
  4. Provides each participant's parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis.
  5. Prepares materials for daily activities.
  6. Maintains records of attendance and arrival and departure times
  7. Maintains supervision of children
  8. Conducts parent-teacher conferences at least annually.
  9. Maintains the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom.
  10. Disciplines children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior.
  11. Handles parent concerns
  12. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers.
  13. Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships with teaching staff.
  14. Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.
  15. Collaborate with children's families to ensure a smooth transition from home to Childcare setting.
  16. Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children's learning and growth.
  17. Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree in early childhood education, Preschool CDA REQUIRED; bachelor's degree (BA) preferred; six months to one-year childcare related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Ability and desire to work with infants, toddlers, preschool and school age children. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications.

 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Fingerprinting
  • DHS clearance
  • Negative T.B. skin test
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to maintain an overall positive and professional disposition.
  • Effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.
  • Demonstrable record of making decisions on behalf of children with their well-being the top priority.
