Summary The Cytogenetics laboratory is a core analytical facility involved in the analysis of cellular genetic markers from human tumor that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases. Under general supervision, the Cytogenetic Technologist performs processing, analysis and reporting of specimens for clinical, academic, medical and industrial clients. Position performs laboratory work in a GMP/GLP/GCP environment.Responsibilities Preparation of clinical specimens (i.e. bone marrow, peripheral blood and lymph node) for FISH and Cytogenetic testing, which include setting up the specimens, harvesting, slide making and banding. Set up FISH for hematological probes; slide making, FISH hybridization and wash FISH slides. Plasma cell separation using Miltenyi/Robosep. Paraffin tissue processing for FISH hybridization and washing. Assist in managing patient databases, files and performing general office work necessary to the operations of the laboratory. Assist in slide-filing and pellet-storing. Provide overall assistance to the laboratory staff at the discretion of the Laboratory Director or primary supervisor in order to improve the efficiency of laboratory operations. Adhere to the laboratorys quality control program; document all QC activities, instrument, reagent checks and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Perform other duties as may be required. Qualifications Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or other life science. Minimum three years experience as Cytogenetics Tech FISH required; experience in G Band preferred. Cytotechnologist Certification required. Good computer and systems proficiency, specifically with MS Office systems, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as laboratory management systems. Good work ethic with the ability to complete work accurately and timely, with general direction. Proficient professional communication skills, verbal and written.
