Automatic Building Controls Project Accountant in Rolling Meadows, Illinois

Automatic Building Controls, Inc. / FIX Consulting, LLC are building automation contractors and systems integration consultants, specializing in enterprise solutions, LEED (sustainability), Commissioning and service since 1976. We consult and support our customers in the ever-changing world of building automation and controls.

Summary of Position

An understanding of the accounting process will be necessary to be successful within position. This position will require flexibility due to assisting team members in multiple roles relative to the needs within the accounting department. The Project Accountant will assist team members with reconciliations, month end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and special projects. To be successful in this position one must be detailed oriented, enjoy having a variety of tasks and responsibilities, have intermediate Excel skills, and enjoy working in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create job on shared drive and in accounting software and follow from beginning to end of project.

  • Review contracts to ensure all requirements being met; bonding, prequals, insurance needs, etc.

  • Maintain project-related records, including subcontracts and change orders.

  • Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts.

  • Review and approve supplier invoices related to a project and time sheets for work related to a project.

  • Analyze job costing reports and identify problems.

  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to project management.

  • Review and request waivers.

  • Weekly team meetings on open accounts for collection and keeping track of payment schedules.

  • Making outbound collection calls in a professional manner while keeping and improving customer relations.

  • Prepare monthly AIA pay request and report to management on any opportunities for additional billings.

  • Close out project accounts upon project completion.

    Requirements

  • High school diploma with previous accounting experience required; Associates degree in Accounting or related field with previous Project Accounting experience is preferred.

  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • An understanding of billing, collections and receivable procedures is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and to adapt to a fast-changing environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to complete job duties with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent customer service skills and must possess a high level of interpersonal skills including the ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions in stressful situations.

  • Construction Accounting experience is preferred, but not required.
