Rochester Presbyterian Home Engagement & Transportation Companion in Rochester, New York

The Rochester Presbyterian Home is seeking an Engagement Companion and Transportation Guide.

Full Time Pay Range: $16.00 - $18.00

$500 Retention Bonus Available!

The Engagement Companion and Transportation Guide provides individualized support and assistance for residents to enable optimal functioning and preserve existing abilities. The Engagement Companion and Transportation Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. The position supports the residents in fulfilling daily living activities, engages the residents in recreation programs and transports residents to scheduled appointments. RPH serves elders with memory impairment and is licensed and certified by the NYS DOH to provide ALR, SNALR, EALR levels of care. The Engagement Companion and Transportation Guide serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is (or will be) specifically trained in the supportive care of persons with memory impairment, dementia, and other age-related diagnoses to effectively implement elders’ individualized wellness care plans.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Act in a professional manner always. Create and maintain a warm atmosphere of positivity and calmness. Ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect and that resident rights are maintained.

  • Transport assigned residents to/from scheduled medical and other appointments.

  • Assist residents during transportation to appointments.

  • Provide one on one companionship to new residents, residents experiencing a difficult adjustment or returning from hospital or rehab.

  • Implement assigned activities and engagement events.

  • Perform all assigned tasks and assignments in accordance with policy and procedures and as instructed by Leadership.

  • Employ a supportive approach to resident care to enable the residents to function as independently as possible and be successful with activities.

  • Work with colleagues to ensure elders’ needs are met and elder care is seamless and effective.

  • Validate, reassure, and redirect elders if distressed to ensure comfort and well-being.

  • Redirect unsafe wandering and behavior into meaningful exercise and activity.

  • Report all resident incidents and accidents during the shift when they occur. Report all grievances or concerns.

  • Clean up after activities and engagement.

  • Ensure that work areas are kept in a clean, safe, and sanitary state. Report on maintenance needs.

    Requirements:

  • Must be 18+ years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Certificate of training from a DOH approved training program is a plus.

  • Must possess valid and clean Driver License.

  • Experience in long-term care, assisted living community or ALR homecare setting working with older adults is a plus.

  • A positive attitude, encouraging and motivating elders and staff to find joy, happiness and contentment.

  • Ability to communicate in English (reading, speaking, and understanding). Possess interpersonal and communication skills to communicate tactfully with co-workers, residents, family members, visitors, government regulators and the public.

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Possess ability to make mature, independent decisions in a timely manner.

  • Be a quick learner, empathetic, compassionate, and with ability to preserve the dignity and self-image of residents.

  • Able to act professionally – arrive on time for your shifts, communicate variances as needed. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to attend and participate in on-the-job training.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information and treat all elders and staff with respect.

    The Rochester Presbyterian Home in Rochester, NY has been serving Elders for over 90 years. RPH also manages RPH-East Memory Care Residences at Creekstone in Fairport, NY and RPH West Memory Care Residences at Cottage Grove in North Chili, NY.
