Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

The Developer Productivity Services team delivers fast growing Azure services that help drive enterprises to move to the cloud by providing streamlined, self-service, and cost optimized solutions. Microsoft Dev Box is one of our products that our team has been working on to transform the dev workstation experience for developers.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead the web platform and developer experience for Microsoft Dev Box. This role will include building a web platform that other partner teams can leverage to build experiences for users. This team owns making the experience for developers seamless when they start using Dev Box. We are looking for someone with passion to improve user experience and look for creative ways to solve customer problems.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

  • Guide partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Understand customer feedback and translate into actionable product experiences.

  • Share and act on findings from investigations and owns design decisions and oversees the less experienced team members.

  • Guide others and writes documents for designs or User Stories and determines the technology that will be leveraged.

  • Identify skills needed and ensures engineering team's skills remain current by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments.

  • Drive constant improvement in how we work

  • Set strategic technical direction, including design and architecture

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of experience building software utilizing web technologies, including HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
